My Story
Esme Zur, And the I of the Age is the first book in the series, published for L.A. Estabrook. Her passion for writing sharted at a very young age. Writing poetry and short stories in middle school. The writing continued in college with children's books. Estabrrok would say writing is in her blood with her father, grandfather and great grandfather all writing in some form or fashion.
Sitting at the dinner table one day trying to deal with all the chaos around her, Estabrook took a deep breath. Instead of yelling at the unraveling of her world around her, she took out her phone and began typing away. Four years later Esme Zur emerged. Part of the story merges both her girls personality, herself and the mother all in one. Esme is the story of a girl’s coming of age, in a decimated AI controlled world. This strong female role model is celebrated for doing something historically male. Written to inspire young children everywhere to embrace who they are, what they are good at and what they love to do. Estabrook says, “Don’t retreat away from the talent you are given, even if no one else like you is doing it.”
Estabrook got serious with finishing Esme Zur, after her diagnosis of Stage 4 Breast Cancer in late 2019. As this was her second time with Cancer, Estabrook says, “Nothing gives you determination like knowing your time on Earth is shortened”. She longs to write exclusively for a living and spend as much time as she can with her family. She is passionate about helping others with Breast Cancer, bringing hope, sharing her knowledge and gifts. By providing 10% of all book profit to the Breast Cancer Research foundation and Breast Cancer Resource Centers around the World. She, her husband and two girls currently live in Texas.

I felt like I was IN the story due to Estabrook’s thoughtful descriptions of people and places. In a time when we all are experiencing a changing world and hardships, a character that overcomes is just what we need to read. This is a fantastic gift this season for any ‘tween or teen looking for a little encouragement and hope.

And after reading it, I will buy copies to donate to kid libraries that are sorely in need of new books. I liked it because it was not full of violence like a lot of young adult books. It was an interesting storyline with just a hint of romance in it. If you enjoyed Huger Games get this book for yourself or your kiddo.
